Automotive Valvoline
Challenge
Valvoline introduced many firsts in the lubricant industry, including the first single-grade oil used with many different engines, multi-climate oils, and oil specifically designed for racing. In 1985, Valvoline entered the quick-lube business, acquiring Rapid Oil Change Corporation, and grew to more than 1,200 locations in North America.
CDF worked closely with Valvoline’s quick-lube business, providing specialty packaging for their company-owned and franchised locations. The quick-lube business has changed the way they store and deliver lubricants to their customers. As engine technology has evolved, motor oil has become more specialized, requiring different grades for different engines and the different climates where they run. These market forces require Valvoline to carry many more grades of oil to satisfy its customers.
Solution
Valvoline saw the industry moving to flexible packaging to reduce costs and deliver a more diverse selection of products. They liked our Cheertainer bag-in-box solution because of its high level of quality, the custom form-fit to their box, and the faster dispense without glugging. Valvoline also liked our filling equipment, our partnership with the manufacturer, Flexifill, and our post-installation service and support. CDF services three Valvoline plants – Cincinnati, OH, Rochester, PA, and Deer Park, TX.
Results
Valvoline designed a custom racking system for our Cheertainer called the Advanced Bay Box. It allows franchisees to carry many different oil types and makes oil changes easier, faster, and more cost-effective. The innovation of Cheertainer and the ABB system has helped Valvoline substantially grow its business, recently landing Walmart as a customer.
